The Worrying about money leaflet guides Cornish residents through four simple steps towards help with their money worry.

This leaflet is a simple resource for people facing financial crisis - and those supporting them - to quickly see available advice and support options and which agencies are best placed to help.

The aim is to reduce the need for emergency food aid by helping people access any existing financial entitlements and advice on income maximisation.

Acts 435 is a national Christian charity that directly connects those who want to help with those who are facing poverty or hardship, often helping an individual or family bridge the gap when facing financial crisis.

Requests for help are posted onto the Acts 435 website by a partner church or local charity, and are to fund specific items such as a cooker, school uniform or a bus pass.

As a partner of Acts435, Transformation Cornwall has an advocate who can post adverts on behalf of anyone who refers a client to us. Please get in touch if you know someone who may this assistance. Please contact us if you would like us to do this for yourself or someone you work with.

Loan Sharks

Loan sharks are illegal money lenders who may charge extremely high interest, use intimidation, or put people under pressure to repay money. If you have borrowed from a loan shark, or are worried that someone you know may be affected, confidential help is available. Stop Loan Sharks offers free, practical advice and support to help people understand their options, report illegal lenders and begin moving towards a safer financial situation.

The England Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT) was established in 2004 to tackle the problem of loan sharks and illegal money lending in England. It operates under the Stop Loan Sharks initiative and works closely with local communities, police forces, housing associations, and debt advice services.

Know the warning signs

Pretend to be a friend
Take your passport or bank card as security
Threaten or intimidate you if you can't pay
Offer you a loan with no paperwork
Add charges that mean the amount you owe never goes down
Your lender is not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority — check the register at www.fca.org.uk

You have done nothing wrong.

If you have borrowed from a loan shark, the lender has broken the law, not you. Free, confidential advice and support is available.
